“Each week I preach justification by faith alone (the Gospel) because each week WE FORGET.” – Martin Luther
When it comes to the Good News about Jesus Christ, we suffer from short-term memory loss. We stumble and struggle to remember Christ’s life, death, & resurrection, and the BILLIONS of blessings that flow into our lives as a result. We forget.
That’s why Psalm 103 commands us, to Bless the Lord O my soul, and FORGET NOT all his benefits. in other words, “Don’t bury the benefits!” Remember!
Is it not the Gospel that God reminded the Israelites of before He gave them the “Don’t worship Idols” sermon? Exodus 20:2/ I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of slavery. Was it not from a failure to grip the Gospel that caused our brothers to fall into detestable idolatry?
Jeremiah 2:6/ they DID NOT say, “Where is the LORD who brought us out of Egypt? They didn’t “say” it because they didn’t think it. Or what about Psalm 106:21/ They FORGOT God, their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt.
Are we getting the gospel or getting over it? Are we gripping it or forgetting it? Are we bathing in it everyday? Oh, how we need the Spirit to empower us to visit Calvary every single day. Oh, how we need the Father to remind us (even now) of the riches that we have in Christ!
