Matthew 5:13-16 – Contrary to the popular notion that Christianity should be a private matter, Jesus says something all together different in the Sermon on the Mount. At the end of his eight-fold description of Christian character and conduct (Beatitudes), Jesus says that the opposition of the world affects the disciple (persecution). Then, he goes on to say that the conduct of the disciple affects the world (salt and light).
Do we really understand the importance of Jesus’ words? And, are we living as salt and light in a culture that seeks to press us into something altogether different?
