Mark 5:21-43 – In our text today, Jesus is going heal a woman and raise another one from the dead. In each of the stories in Mark 5, Jesus touches someone who is unclean; receiving their uncleanness and making them whole. In each of these stories, including the storm on the sea (Mark 4), there is an intersection of fear and faith; fear challenges faith.
Here’s the point: Faith trusts the Person, not the circumstances. Just like the disciples on the sea, Jesus is saying, “As long as I am with you, there is no ground for fear.” Jesus is saying to Jairus, “Don’t go on fearing the worst, but do keep on believing for the best.”
