Mark 11:27-12:12 – Today we begin six conflict stories between Jesus and the religious leaders – thru chapter 12. In this first interaction with the religious authorities in Jerusalem, Jesus will highlight their authoritative inconsistency and set them up for the illustration that follows.
In other words, this text has two sections: the confrontation and the parable. The two sections form ONE story: Mark indicates the unity of this text by the entrance and exit of the Sanhedrin (v. 27 and 12). The parable is an illustration of the leader’s rejection of God’s authority.
