Isaiah 52:13-53:12 – The setting leading up to 52:13 indicates that God is ready to reveal his fantastic plan. The Servant is the fulfillment of promises and blessings, he won’t be like you expect. One of the things Isaiah 52-53 does is pit people’s perceptions against God’s reality.
Throughout this song the contrast between perception and reality is intensified.
The theme of the poem is this: The power we expect is one that crushes the enemy – sin, evil, and suffering. Instead we get the Servant who, when the enemy crushes him, gives back love, mercy and forgiveness – all according to God’s plan.
