Titus 2:1-5 – According to Wikipedia, “pay it forward” is when “the creditor offers the debtor the option of paying the debt forward by lending it to a third person instead of paying it back to the original creditor.” The concept was rediscovered and described by Benjamin Franklin, in a letter to Benjamin Webb dated April 25, 1784.
With all due respect to B. Franklin, he didn’t invent pay it forward. It’s actually a taken from a biblical principle that we see in Titus 2. The point here is: Connect your profession to Christ to your action as a Christian, and pay it forward.
Rather than this text being one that is laden with guilt and law, it is actually one of freedom. We don’t need anymore law – but Christ has set us free!
