I John 2:3-6 – What does it mean to know God? John’s desire throughout the book is that we would know some things. This desire stems from the claims that false teachers were making that they had a special knowledge related to fellowship with God, eternal life, and just plainly knowing God.
Rudolf Schnackenburg wrote, “Knowledge of God is not primarily a rational process. It involved a reciprocal relationship and manifests itself in worship and in obedience to God’s commandments.” John’s going to help us relate that to God so we can know – Assurance that we know him…”We can be sure” or “we can know that we know him.”
