Mark 8:1-21 – There is a lot going on in basically three sections: the miracle of the feeding; the confrontation with the Pharisees; the discussion with the disciples. There is a lot going on, but there is only one theme: Faith.
This is the theme: Exposure to Jesus (or Proximity to Jesus; or Growing in understanding about Jesus) will EITHER grow into faith OR harden into unbelief.
Charles Spurgeon said, “The same sun which melts wax hardens clay. And the same Gospel which melts some persons to repentance hardens others in their sins.” That’s it. The Good News of Jesus Christ (the Gospel), will either melt (grow into faith) or harden (into unbelief). There is no remaining neutral. As understanding grows, a path is chosen.
In this text, we will see this PATH with three groups of people: a Gentile crowd, the Pharisees and the Disciples.
