Romans 7:7-25 – Romans 7 has been described by many to resemble Robert Louis Stephenson’s “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”. In some ways the chapter does resemble Jekyll and Hyde: “For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.” (Romans 7:15)
What is very clear here in the chapter is that life – including the Christian life – is WAR!
I like the way Tim Keller separates these two wars. He writes, “The war between the selves before you meet Christ is a war without hope you cannot win. But the war after you meet Christ you cannot lose.”
Sanctification, in many ways, is war!
