Matthew 5:1-3 – Jesus’ purpose in the Sermon on the Mount is to instruct his followers regarding how they live under the present rule of God. He begins with eight principle marks of Christian character and conduct. They are called the Beatitudes.
It will go well with the one who is poor in spirit; or, the kingdom of heaven is for those who are aware of their own personal spiritual bankruptcy.
